Some Analyses of Atmospheric Electric-Field Gradients
نویسنده
چکیده
The earth maintains surprisingly large voltage gradients, Ez [V/m], between its surface and a conductive ionosphere above 100 km, with fair-weather measurements averaging about 160 V/m near the surface, positive upwards. These gradients are easily detected but difficult to quantify with accuracies better than a few percent. Data records survive from several sites dating to the early 1900's. Measured Ez are noisy, with extreme values during brief intervals [0.1 sec] exceeding ±1,000 V/m. With yearly data at longer sampling intervals [30 min], extreme values typically range between –100 and +500 V/m, with unfiltered averages and standard deviations near 180 ± 75 V/m. [Figure 1].

مطالعه ابتدا به ساکن بلور CeIn3 در فشارهای بالا
Electric field gradients (EFG’s) at the In sites and spin magnetic moments at the Ce sites were calculated for the case of solid CeIn3. The calculations were performed by increasing pressure gradually from -5 to +22 GPa within the density functional theory (DFT) using the augmented plane waves plus local orbital (APW+lo) method employing the well-known PBE-GGA+U and WC-GGA+U schemes. The resu...
متن کاملDetermination of Electric Field at Inception Based upon Current-Voltage Characteristics of AC Corona in Rod-Plane Gaps
This paper deals with the measurement of AC corona inception voltage, Vincp, at the tip of a rod electrode using a hemispherically-capped rod-plane electrode configuration for various rod radii with a short air gap. Effects of atmospheric pressure and temperature variation on Vincp are investigated experimentally. An empirical equation for the field form factors of the hemispherically cappe...
متن کاملSimulation of a Helium Atmospheric Plasma Jet Using Fluid Equations
In this study, a cold atmospheric He plasma jet is investigated. The jet is of dielectric barrier discharge type, consisting of a dielectric tube with two metal ring electrodes. The continuity, momentum and energy conservation equations as well as the Poisson equation for obtaining the potential and the electric field, accompanied with the ideal gas laws, are used for the simulation. The result...
متن کاملElectric field gradient effects in raman spectroscopy.
Raman spectra of materials subject to strong electric field gradients, such as those present near a metal surface, can show significantly altered selection rules. We describe a new mechanism by which the field gradients can produce Raman-like lines. We develop a theoretical model for this "gradient-field Raman" effect, discuss selection rules, and compare to other mechanisms that produce Raman-...
